The team at Acme Carriers Perth Piano and Pool Table Movers have more than 50 years of experience safely and efficiently lifting, moving and lowering grand pianos into commercial and other buildings across Perth and its surrounds.
Recognising that, we were recently approached by the Rendezvous Hotel – an iconic beachfront hotel in Scarborough that overlooks the gorgeous white sands of Scarborough Beach – to move two pianos within the hotel.
What is involved in moving a grand piano?
As grand pianos are very delicate, heavy and expensive instruments (they can weigh anywhere from 200 to 600+ kilograms and can cost upwards of $7,000 depending on the model, brand etc.), they require a great deal of care and planning to successfully move without damaging or breaking them.
For the Rendezvous Hotel project, with each piano, we started by clearing the areas we were planning to move through. We then removed the piano lid by removing the small pins within the hinges, we also removed the music shelf and keyboard cover. These were wrapped in large pads for protection.
We then removed the front left leg allowing the piano to be rolled down and onto its side on a specially made dolly designed and built by us to move the piano safely and easily. Once on its side on the dolly we then removed the remaining legs and lyre and placed them into special boxes made specifically by us for safe moving.
All in all, it took us less than one hour to disassemble, move and reassemble the two pianos from start to finish. And don’t they both look great!
